Every 40 seconds, a child becomes missing or abducted in the United States. Hundreds of thousands of children are abducted by family members, strangers, or are runaways. Internationally, children are abducted and sold into prostitution and unlawful labor. Many never see their families again. What we can do Educate children how to phone to call home and 911 • Teach them not to answer the door when you’re out • Keep photos of your children updated • Know where your children are at all times • Be sure your child knows what to do if you become separated in a public place • Choose a secret word to use with your children in an emergency • Explain tactics child abductors might use and teach your child how to respond • Be cautious in selecting others to care for your child
